Many may lie a lot because they are afraid of the truth. The truth might hurt them, or the people they love. Some lies might be accceptable though. Such as the lies that might save someone's life.
One may lie so it could possibly boost their self-image. Lack of confidence might also lead to dishonesty.
In conclusion, I think people lie because they do not think the truth is "good enough."
i lie because im not always ready for the reaction i may get to what i say... if that makes sense. or because i dont want people to know things...so i cover it up.
